The World of Langthil

Langthil is a multiverse comprised of two “planes” of existence: The Primary and the Other.

Primary Plane

This plane functions much like the real world, albeit with the addition of magic and the almost-ever-present meddling of the various gods. It is, however, surrounded by the Elemental Chaos; what we generally refer to the “Primary Plane” is, in fact, a finite, mostly-spherical region protected by an Aether shell roughly 70 AU in diameter.

Within the shell are many small holes or gaps, through which the light produced by the chaotic interactions of the Elemental Chaos beyond shines, appearing in the night sky as small points of light – the stars. The shell is not solid, however, and where the Chaos interacts with it random ripples and movements are generated in its structure; the result of this is that the stars are constantly in motion, albeit very slowly.

To aid navigators, however, the goddess of explorers expends great effort to counteract these movements in a handful of stars, keeping them fixed in place in the sky so that explorers can use these “waystars” to find their way.

Additionally, some of the gods have claimed their own stars, which they likewise keep fixed in place so that their worshipers can easily find them in the sky; these are called “godstars”.

Other Plane

The Other Plane is a place hostile to mortals – or, rather, to time itself. While divine beings can bring self-sustaining amounts of time into it with them, making them essentially immune to the effects of the place, any mortal who enters it quickly “times out” and remains forever frozen – not in time, but outside of it.

Divine Realms

Most of the gods’ personal realms – essentially “pocket dimensions” within which they have absolute power – are established within the Other plane, although many have instead established their realms within the Primary plane.
